On-chain metrics describe how a network is actually used. Transaction counts and volumes can show activity, though both can be inflated. Active addresses offer another usage proxy, while fees paid can signal demand for block space. Team history, public code activity, competitor positioning, and token distribution all matter because concentrated allocations or weak delivery can undermine long-term utility. Financial-style crypto metrics include circulating market capitalization, trading liquidity, volume depth, maximum supply, and inflation schedules that may pressure price as new tokens enter circulation.

Key valuation signals

Market capitalization reflects circulating supply times price, while fully diluted valuation estimates value if all tokens were issued. A wide gap between the two can imply future sell pressure when unlocks arrive. Total value locked measures assets deposited in DeFi protocols and is often used as a rough adoption gauge, though TVL is not the same as revenue, profit, or safety. Protocol revenue-fees users actually pay-can be more informative than locked balances alone when assessing whether a product generates real economic activity.
