Standard Chartered projects Chainlink's LINK could reach $200 by 2030, citing rapid growth in tokenized assets and DeFi. The forecast follows similar calls for AAVE, UNI, and MORPHO, raising questions about how protocol usage translates to token value

Chainlink's LINK token is in the spotlight after Standard Chartered set a long-term price target of $200 for 2030, outlining a staged path that would see LINK rise from around $7.47 today to $13 by year-end, then to $41 in 2027, $82 in 2028, and $133 in 2029. The bank's forecast, which implies a nearly 27-fold increase from current levels, comes as institutional interest in blockchain infrastructure and tokenization accelerates, but also as questions persist about how protocol adoption translates into token value for holders.

Tokenization Growth and Chainlink's Role

Standard Chartered's thesis rests on the expectation that tokenized assets-real-world assets represented on blockchains-will expand from roughly $340 billion today to $4 trillion by the end of 2028. The bank also projects that decentralized finance (DeFi) assets will grow 37 times to $2.7 trillion by 2030. Chainlink, which provides oracle services and cross-chain connectivity, is positioned as a core infrastructure provider for this shift, already securing more than $110 billion in value across DeFi protocols, according to the bank's research. Major institutions such as Swift, DTCC, Euroclear, JPMorgan, Mastercard, UBS, Fidelity, and S&P Global are cited as users of Chainlink's services, particularly for data feeds and tokenization connectivity.

Fee Growth and Value Capture

The bank's model assumes that as tokenized activity grows, Chainlink's protocol fees will rise roughly 25 times, driven by increased demand for pricing, net asset value calculations, and reserve attestations. Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) has seen notable adoption, with $4.9 billion in volume in the second quarter of 2026-a 353% year-over-year increase. More than $7 billion in token value has migrated to CCIP since a major exploit affected legacy bridge infrastructure in April. Despite these usage metrics, the link between protocol adoption and token value remains debated, as Chainlink's fee structure and reserve accumulation mechanisms are still evolving and may not guarantee direct value accrual for LINK holders.

Market Reaction and Scenario Analysis

Standard Chartered's previous price targets for AAVE, UNI, and MORPHO were followed by sharp repricings in those tokens, with UNI rising 22.5% and MORPHO gaining over 13% in the 24 hours around their respective announcements. LINK, by contrast, traded at $8.27-down 0.8% on the day-when the latest note was published, suggesting a more muted or delayed market response. The bank outlines several scenarios: a bull case where traders rotate into LINK as tokenization headlines build, a delayed reaction if the market waits for evidence of fee growth, a bear case where usage does not translate into token value, and a long-term thesis where tokenized assets approach $4 trillion and Chainlink captures meaningful fee growth, potentially supporting the $200 target.

Risks and Uncertainties

While Chainlink's infrastructure is widely used in DeFi and tokenization, the extent to which this usage will drive sustained demand for LINK remains uncertain. Competing oracle and data providers could erode Chainlink's market share, and institutional clients may continue to pay for services without that value reaching token holders. The token's price could remain range-bound if value capture mechanisms do not evolve or if the market remains skeptical of the link between protocol usage and token appreciation. For U.S. investors and users, these dynamics highlight the importance of understanding how protocol economics, token supply, and fee structures interact-especially as tokenization and DeFi adoption accelerate globally.

As of June 2026, LINK's circulating supply stands at approximately 587 million tokens, with a market capitalization near $4.4 billion based on recent trading prices. Chainlink's oracles reportedly secure over $110 billion in DeFi value, representing about 70% of oracle-dependent assets globally and more than 80% on Ethereum, according to Standard Chartered's research. CCIP's $4.9 billion in Q2 2026 volume reflects growing cross-chain activity, but the direct impact on LINK's price remains subject to market interpretation and evolving protocol economics.

Chainlink's tokenomics illustrate a broader challenge in crypto: protocol usage does not always guarantee token appreciation. While increased adoption can drive protocol fees and network effects, the mechanisms by which those fees accrue to token holders vary widely across projects. In Chainlink's case, the Reserve is designed to accumulate LINK through both on-chain and off-chain revenue, but the effectiveness of this model depends on sustained demand, competitive dynamics, and the willingness of institutional clients to pay in ways that benefit token holders. As tokenization and DeFi continue to expand, the debate over value capture and tokenholder rewards is likely to intensify, shaping both market expectations and protocol design choices in the years ahead.
