Dogechain continued producing blocks after its scheduled shutdown, leaving more than 2 million DOGE in limbo as users face uncertainty over bridge withdrawals and QuickSwap access

Dogechain, an Ethereum-compatible blockchain distinct from Dogecoin, failed to halt block production at its announced shutdown time of 12:00 UTC on August 8. Despite the project's warnings that assets left on the network could become inaccessible, the chain's infrastructure-including its RPC endpoint and block explorer-remained operational for a period after the deadline, raising new questions about the fate of user funds and the reliability of off-chain services.

Block Production Continues

According to documentation published by Dogechain, the network was supposed to cease operations at noon UTC, with users urged to withdraw assets in advance. Yet, blockchain data showed that blocks continued to be produced after the cutoff, with block 62,578,578 timestamped at 12:01:52 UTC and the explorer displaying ongoing activity minutes later. This persistence of block creation did not guarantee that all network services, such as the bridge or dApp integrations, remained functional or that users could still recover their tokens.

Bridge and QuickSwap Access Uncertain

The official Dogechain bridge interface stayed online after the shutdown, showing deposit and withdrawal options and reporting a total of 2,081,715.83 DOGE as "Current DOGE on Chain." However, there was no public evidence that any withdrawals were successfully processed after the deadline. The bridge's documentation describes an administrator-controlled process for moving DOGE between Dogechain and the Dogecoin mainnet, but ongoing block production alone does not confirm that these operational components are still active or able to return user funds.

Meanwhile, QuickSwap, a decentralized exchange that previously supported Dogechain, redirected its Dogechain-specific route to its Polygon deployment both before and after the shutdown. This left users unable to access the usual interface for managing Dogechain-based swaps or liquidity positions. QuickSwap had previously warned users to withdraw assets and liquidity before the shutdown, but the redirect effectively removed the last major dApp interface for Dogechain users.

Funds in Limbo

The result is a partial network sunset: block production and some infrastructure persisted, but the main user-facing dApp route was disabled and the bridge's ability to process withdrawals remains unproven. The dashboard's reported DOGE balance does not clarify how much is user-controlled or recoverable, and Dogechain's own warnings suggest that permanent loss remains a risk. As of press time, the Dogechain explorer web page was no longer loading, further complicating user efforts to monitor or recover assets.

Dogechain's situation echoes broader risks faced by users when blockchain projects wind down or sunset services. At the time of the shutdown, the Dogechain bridge dashboard displayed over 2 million DOGE on the network, but without successful post-deadline withdrawals, it is unclear how much of this total remains accessible to users. Dogechain's shutdown highlights the operational and custodial risks that can arise when a blockchain network or its supporting services are discontinued. Users who did not withdraw assets before the cutoff now face significant uncertainty, with no clear path to recovery and no guarantee that remaining DOGE can be reclaimed.

Bridges between blockchains are often managed by a combination of smart contracts and off-chain administrators or multisig signers. When a network sunsets, the continued production of blocks does not ensure that bridge operators will process withdrawals or that dApps will remain accessible. Users relying on these services may find themselves unable to recover assets if operational support is withdrawn or if key infrastructure fails. This underscores the importance of understanding the technical and custodial dependencies behind cross-chain assets and the risks of leaving funds on networks or bridges facing shutdown.
