Geopolitical shocks and supply-chain stress have historically fed the same loop by raising inflation pressure and reinforcing higher rates. Traders cannot eliminate that backdrop, but they can reduce concentration, avoid forced selling, and wait for clearer market structure rather than reacting to every swing.

Crypto trades around the clock with no traditional price limits, so extreme moves can trigger cascading liquidations. Exchange and lending-platform risk sits outside pure price action. Centralized venues can halt withdrawals when liquidity dries up. Unlike banks that may access short-term funding channels, many crypto credit models depend on continuous inflows. When those stop, operators may use new deposits to satisfy older claims until the structure breaks. Users then face frozen balances, delayed claims, and bankruptcy processes rather than instant recovery. Policy Uncertainty

Regulatory shocks can move prices even when code and custody remain intact. China's 2017 restrictions on ICOs and related services triggered immediate selling pressure before later market cycles resumed. In the United States, rapid Federal Reserve tightening in 2022 coincided with multi-week declines across equities and crypto as inflation remained elevated. Self-custody shifts responsibility to the holder: keys, network selection, and contract approvals become personal operational controls rather than bank features.

Liquidation engines in leveraged crypto markets are designed to protect lenders and protocols, not traders. When collateral ratios breach thresholds, smart contracts or exchange risk systems sell positions automatically, often into falling prices. That process can accelerate drawdowns across correlated assets, especially when many accounts use the same collateral type. Spot holdings avoid forced liquidation, yet they still face market, custody, and platform risks that require separate controls.
